South Africa remains at Level 1 Lock down

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the country would remain on alert level 1 lockdown but with a few extra restrictions. He addressed the nation last night on developments in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The president had also banned the sale of alcohol for the duration of the Easter Long weekend as an attempt to curb reckless behaviour. However onsite sales of liquor remains in place.

Meanwhile….The South African Liquor Brand Owners Association wants the government to provide details on what scientific reasoning it uses when imposing an alcohol ban.

At the same time…. Local government elections should be postponed until 2024. This is the call from EFF leader Julius Malema, who says that with Covid restrictions, campaigning and rallying for votes becomes more difficult. The opposition leader says The postponement allows the vote to be free and fair
