IEC says its on track to run local gov. elections this year despite parties calling for a delay

In spite of a budget cut and the COVID-19 pandemic, the IEC says that it is on track to run local government elections this year and poured cold water on the possibility of postponing the polls. Some political parties, including the EFF, wanted the elections delayed as the lockdown had limited their ability to campaign and the country faced a possible third wave of infections. Officials updated Parliament’s portfolio committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs last night on the IEC’s readiness for the polls.
