South Africa has recorded 847 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours. A further 67 more Covid-19 related deaths had also been reported over the same time period.
The recovery rate remains at 95%.
Meanwhile….. South Africa has temporarily suspended the roll-out of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines amid reported cases of rare and severe blood clots.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize made the announcement yesterday, following the announcement by the Food and Drug Administration of the temporary suspension of the use of the vaccine in the United States.
Yesterday the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the FDA recommended that the country halt the use of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose COVID-19 vaccine after six reported cases where patients developed rare and severe blood clots.
With more vaccine doses on their way to South Africa for the country’s mass vaccination drive, the health department had currently inoculated almost 290,000 healthcare workers.
